Lake Elsinore Rod & Kulture Show 2006

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Kulture was abound in Lake Elsinore, California, as the city played host to a kewl rod run Saturday, June 24th. Although the show’s official hours were 2-7pm, we strolled through early to get a few shots of cars and art before the viewing crowd set in. We’re glad to haven gotten in early, since the day promised to get hot (over 100 degrees anyway) by mid-day. Summer days in the Inland Empire are hot - real hot some days. Anyway, speaking of hot, several rods on display at this Kulture Show were outright smokin’. Thanks to the Axle Draggers Street Rods & Customs and other car clubs and owners for bringing out their rides to share.

This is a long post, so we’ll start with painters and then cars - click the “more” button to see the cars (lots of car shots). Two local airbrush guys were at this year’s show; Paintworx and Lil Newt. Each has a unique style and offered a lot to the show.

Specializing in the cool stuff you need painted, Paintworx dropped in from Quail Valley to display his craft…

… motorcycle tanks,

… home decor items,

… and fine art - kulture style.

Newt, a Lake Elsinore airbrush artist and living legend was on hand to show his Kustom Kulture Art.

He put out an impressive display complete with kewl car, motorcycle, dragster and art.

Newt can turn anything into kewl art - especially car stuff…

… and definitely, cars. His orange flamed Caddy is a kewl cruiser.

Nice job with the flames.

Newt’s dragster, which I understand, he drives himself.

It definitely looks fast.

And a quick view of the front this long railed dragster. I’m guessing that more have seen it from the back than front. Nice ride Newt.

Dirty Water Dog

Monday, June 19th, 2006

Dargo swims! Surprised? We were.

Ok this breed of dog is not known for it’s affinity for water. No web feet, heavy, muscular and stout, not buoyant and lacking water repellent fur. So here’s a little back story for our friends and family who know Dargo as to why she likes swimming now - in spite of her breed.

One day we went to a lake with some friends in Oregon. Dargo was about 3 years old then. We tried and tried to get her into the lake - no success. Then a black lab came by, made friends with her. Then he started playing in the water. His family threw objects into the water and he chased them with glee. Dargo is not one to be left out of fun, so she started going into the water after him. Of course she couldn’t match his speed, but she soon discovered that water isn’t so bad and it can actually be fun to chase objects in the water.

Since that day, we haven’t been able to keep her out of water! (except at bath-time of course - LOL). When we go to the beach, she runs to jump into the ocean. When we go to the lake, she loves fetching sticks and balls. Go figure.

What does this have to do with Airbrush Tour?

Absolutely nothing! We just thought our friends and family would enjoy seeing Dargo fetch a stick in Lake Elsinore - something completely out of character for her.

Object lesson. Sometimes you need a friend to teach you how to have a good time :)

Love and Hugs to you all,
Kathy

Bakersfield Thunder Run

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

Hot weekend; hot bikes, hot rods, hot babes. Bakersfield lives up to its reputation for hot, and the 2006 Bakersfield Thunder Run is just a hot event all the way around.

Chica, custom builder extraordinaire of Biker Build-Off fame. I’m a huge of of Chica’s style and imagination. His custom creations really are works of art.

Chica build bikes that are perfect examples of old-school kewl.

They’re all rolling art…

…and some are simply off-the-page.

The engines in Chica’s bikes are pieces of art all by themselves. Notice the pinstripes and airbrush work on the air-cleaner cover. Click here to see more of Chica’s bikes online.

The renown custom bike builder Hank Young was at the show with his newest creation; Aces & Eights.

This is an incredible custom. Looks great. Sounds great. Check out that back wheel. The large right-side flat plate with the ridges remains stationary while the tire rotates making for a cool effect when this bike is moving.

A look from the top - a rider’s perspective. Great job Hank. See more Hank Young bikes online.

Road Dog Customs was on hand to add a little pinstripe to whatever you wanted.

American Motorcycle Company showed an impressive displayed of bikes - some with airbrush work.

…including a flamed Pounder.

While there is never a shortage of beautiful ladies at these events, this long-legged blond really stands out - SoCal style.

…and a few more beauties strutting their stuff for the bikini contest. If you’re asking, “What’s this got to do with airbrush?”. Like the saying goes… If we have to explain you wouldn’t understand. Or better yet, keep scrolling.

Lisa Berczel of Battledress Paint and Body fame was on hand to strut her stuff and kick around some body art. Her moto is ‘Painting Womens’ Bodies and Mens’ Motorcycles’, and from what we’ve seen, she does both beautifully.

Here’s the finished body art. The cool thing about body art — only the attitude is permanent.

Watch for an upcoming article on Lisa here on AirbrushTour. In the meanwhile, here’s another taste of her body art work from the Bakersfield show.

Airbrush abounds at these shows, and for me, it’s one of the draws - just checking out all the great talent and creativity, whether it be art, beauties, or motorcycles…

Check out this radically airbrushed and all fired-up Boss Hoss motorcycle. Yah, the paint is hot, but so is that V8 engine planted firmly below that 10 gallon gas tank. This is a bike to the extreme.

A little fire on the side. Check out the hot chick in the flames.

An the tank is buried in flames too.

And this is all you see when this thing passes by. This beast makes quite a statement all the way around.

That True Fire look is still hot! Here we find the business end of a Ford truck featuring flames.

Hot rods were on display too. K-Daddy shows of his spray magic with this sharp Ford roadster.

A quick view from the side shows the level of work that goes into these beautiful rides.

Attention to detail makes this a trick ride all around.

An outdoor BBQ island features three beauties and an original airbrush mural by Steve Vandemon.

Another example of some great airbrush work on a bike.

Overall, the display of airbrush work at this year’s Thunder Run was very impressive. Check our Flickr gallery to see more.
