Airbrush Action Getaway

September 30-October 4, 2007 — Whether you’re an inexperienced novice or seasoned professional, the Airbrush Action Getaway in Las Vegas offered five exciting, information packed days. The Getaways are an opportunity to learn from top professionals and connect with artists of similar interests and passion.

The 4 Day Classes include: Craig Fraser’s Automotive Cheap Tricks and Special F/X • How to Kustom Paint Motorcycles • Pinstriping & Lettering Mastery • Automotive Murals on Steel • Automotive Graphics • Achieving Photorealism • T-Shirt Airbrushing • Pin-Up Art

1 Day Classes: Intro To Airbrushing include: Intro to Murals on Steel • Intro to Pinstriping • Intro to Automotive Graphics • Intro to Painting Motorcycles

Approximately 130 students attended this season’s Getaway to learn from the best. We couldn’t resist making a couple visits to get an idea of this event and its first time held at the South Point Hotel Casino & Spa.

Cliff Stieglitz & AD Cook

Airbrush Action Publisher and Executive Editor Cliff Stieglitz pauses for a bit to discuss the next progression of the Airbrush Getaways, now hosted at the its new home — complete with a huge, well-ventilated room. In fact, the new facilities offer plenty of room to roam, and room to grow. In fact, this new classroom could easily accommodate a couple hundred students, or more. This a welcome improvement over the old location in Vegas, which was nice, but not nearly as open feeling.

The always present Craig Fraser and A.D. Cook stop for a quick pic while Craig gives homage to the ‘west coast’ thing.

Lorenzo-AD Cook-Steve Driscoll

Lorenzo Sperlonga and Steve Driscoll take a minute from teaching pin-up art to say ‘hello’.

Steve Driscoll with Flesh Tones

A long-time veteran of the Getaway scene… Steve Driscoll has been teaching at the Airbrush Getaways since 1994. For those wondering when Steve’s flesh tones would be available ready-to-spray… wait no longer. Iwata-Medea has just released Steve’s flesh tone kit in a great set of Com-Art Colours.

Lorenzo-with-Art

Renown pin-up artist Lorenzo Sperlonga shows us why he is more-than-qualified to teach the art of pin-up as he shares a work in progress.

Jonathan with Art

Jonathan Pantaleon, another painter of the pretty ladies, shows us a demo piece in process. Beautiful work as always.

Javier-AD Cook-Jonathan

Javier Soto, A.D. Cook, and Jonathan Pantaleon pause for a quick pic.

A.D. Cook and Deb Mayhan.jpg

The otherwise engaged Debra Mahan takes a moment to share her new joy with A.D. - more details to follow on that later.

Ryno Teaching

Ryno, from the popular CMT Show Trick My Truck teaches the finer points of Automotive Graphics.

A.D. and Blake aka ‘Cross-Eyed’, a Canadian visiting Vegas to teach his radically detailed airbrushing.

Terry Hill Teaching

Veteran airbrusher Terry Hill teaches the class on T-Shirt Airbrushing, as only Terry can.

Terry Hill Painting

Terry’s T-shirts are legendary, and the guy can paint a shirt faster than I can put one on.

Terry Hill and A.D. Cook

We caught up with the always smiling Terry Hill the next day for a quick pic.

Kent-Jennifer-AD

Kent Lind and Jennifer Jorstad of Oasis Studios pause for a quick pic with A.D. during Friday’s clean up.

T-Shirt Art

Here are some cool examples of Oasis airbrushed wearable art.

Gary Jenson

Meanwhile, Gary Jenson prepares to add some cool pinstripes to the awaiting forklift.

Gary Jenson anbd A.D. Cook.jpg

The always stalked Gary Jenson and A.D. Cook. Both from the Northwest, this dynamic duo goes way back to the fun days of Brush Bashes and Pinstripe Parties in the ’90s… but we digress. Both a little older, but still in the game :-)

Dru Blair and Crew.jpg

Down the hall and in their own room are Dru Blair and his friendly staff - left to right: Melanie Alexander, Augie Saccicco, Dru Blair, Krystina Cutler, Darryl Strader. These guys teach the best class going for Achieving Realism. A.D. attended Dru’s class at his studio facilities in North Carolina back 2001. It was a great class then, and Dru is always working on ways to improve the experience.

Old friends - A.D. and Dru take a few minutes to catch up and discuss the importance of staying real.

ADCook-DaveMonnig

Dave Monnig from Coast Airbrush discusses new products and the future of airbrush, and Coast’s ‘new look’.

Airbrush Action Mags

The Airbrush Getaways offer a large supply of product; everything from magazines to airbrushes to videos…

Artool-Templates

…including a ton of Artool templates.

Students Painting

Students paint - and paint - and paint. The Getaways are a great place to spend quality experiences with the airbrush and other artists. There is no substitute for time with an airbrush in hand.

Bob

Returning alumni, Tom Puentes works on a sexy babe in the pin-up workshop.

Well, that’s it for this time. Until the next Getaway, keep painting. You never know when we’ll see you on AirbrushTour. In the interim visit Airbrush Action for information on future Airbrush Getaways.
