Dru Blair Paints Jennifer Janesko

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Kudos to Dru Blair. The first part of his two part step-by-step article appears in the just released March/April 2008 edition of Airbrush Action magazine. In his article, Dru demonstrates how to paint this beautiful figurative piece of Jennifer Janesko who is also an accomplished pin-up artist herself. Get your copy of Airbrush Action to get the goods on that.

Airbrush Action Getaway — Las Vegas, Nevada 2/26/08

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

February 25th, 2008 - The South Point Hotel Casino & Spa in Las Vegas is once again the place to be for the most recent airbrush getaway, hosted by Airbrush Action magazine, Iwata-Medea airbrush products and House of Kolor. As we’ve mentioned on AirbrushTour before, these events provide a great opportunity to learn from top professionals and connect with artists of similar interests and passion. This year’s event is no exception. In fact, this event just gets better and better. This is the second time for this event at South Point, making this event more organized than ever.

Lorenzo Sperlonga and Steve Driscoll take a minute from teaching their popular pin-up workshop for a quick pic. This year’s subject, a beautiful shot provided by Lorenzo, is more racy than ever.

A.D. Cook and Terry Hill.

Daryl with A.D.

Getaway students learn from great instructors and get plenty of hands-on time to airbrush.

Brooke Cedros and Gary Glass from Iwata-Medea.

Gary Jenson sketches out a flame design on a guitar.

Mr. Okuda, Cliff Stieglitz, Mr. Satoru Iwata and Mr. Komatsu - Anest Iwata, Japan.

House of Kolor sponsors this event, so students learn with quality products.

The House of Color crew mixes it up. They stay busy making sure students have plenty of paint.

John Hannukaine, pinstripe master from the great Northwest, lays down some stripes on a rig parked at the Getaway.

Kent Lind and Jennifer Jorstad (soon to be Jennifer Lind) of Oasis Studios were there again teaching their airbrush t-shirt expertise.

A Mahan mannequin that’s always fun to shoot.

Beautiful examples of airbrush art everywhere…

…including this cool panel painted by Charles Armstrong.

Corey Saint Clair was on hand to help out with the classes.

Jonathan Pantaleon, Mike Terwilliger, Javier Soto and A.D. Cook.

Gold leafing is among one of many techniques demonstrated here.

Javier Soto does a demo for his class.

Alumni, Tom Puentes has been attending the Getaways since 2001. This time he’s taken Terry Hill’s class and paints an eagle on metal. Nice job Tom.

A beautifully painted surf board on display - another Charles Armstrong original.

A.D. Cook, Brook Cedros and Bren.

Dru Blair was teaching his Color Buffer Theory technique to his students down the hall.

Ryno was absent this Getaway - filming a new season of Trick My Truck for CMT.

The Airbrush Action Getaway runs February 26-29. Track back to our previous Getaway post from last October.

MySpace Featured Artist - Anthony Sesack

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Anthony’s claim to fame is that he’s unafraid to paint surfaces that most wouldn’t even think of working on. His motto is “If it stands still long enough, paint it”. Check it out…

A true “bomber jacket”. Nose art on the back of a leather jacket.

What - golf clubs? That’s really thinking outside the box, don’t you think?

PPG Platinum Distributor Show

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Friday 2/22/08 - We stopped in to check out the PPG Platinum Distributor Show, an industry event at the beautiful Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, NV, just outside of Las Vegas. This event showcases the wide range of products from PPG and their related tools and vendors. Spray guns and airbrushes were well represented by all the major manufacturers. Anest Iwata brought out the big guns - both in terms of equipment and spray legends, specifically Charley Hutton, formerly of Boyd Coddington fame, and most recently as the man behind the paint for Chip Foose, along with a few episodes of Rides.

Here, Charley unveils a new set of spray guns from Anest Iwata that bear his name - two LPH400 LVX spray guns - one for base colors and another for kandies and clears. This is a nice set-up that will add to any custom shop’s capabilities. We’ll bring you more on this set of great gun soon, along with a follow up to Charley Hutton’s new Color Shop, based out of Boise, Idaho.

No shortage of interest, Charley stays busy sharing the benefits of the new spray guns.

Also on display was the Anest Iwata agitator spray gun. This gun is great in that it mixes your pigment while you spray - perfect for metal flakes and other pigments that tend to settle fast.

A beautiful Arlen Ness motorcycle on display with a plethora of PPG color.

Check out this great paint.

Get funky with PPG color.

Back at the Anest Iwata booth, airbrush demos were executed by Las Vegas airbrush artist Nick Lee of Nick Lee Designs aka NumbSkull Graphix. We brought you some of Nick’s work in a post last year in the form of a tricked out custom bike adorned with skulls and shredded metal.

Above: Nick Lee, Danny from Devious Designs Custom Paintz, and A.D. Cook.

A.D. with Charley Hutton.

A couple cool custom painted boards on display brighten up the event.

Photographer Tara Nichols was on hand documenting the event for PPG. Here, she pauses for a pic with Kathy Cook.

The boys in blue… Mark Hebbeler from Anest Iwata with Charley Hutton.

Thanks to PPG Industries for the great event.

Finishline Design

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Above: Leah Gall at the 2007 SEMA Show with Bob Spina and Tom Kelly.

Introducing Brian & Leah Gall own & operate Finishline Design Inc. in Corcoran, MN, just 30 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. Leah handles the airbrush and Brian is skilled in body work and graphic style paint jobs. Check out some of their work…

Leah is an avid airbrush instructor. Check out their web site for class information.

The Finishline Design shop started its life as a hay barn, over 100 years ago. Now, its been converted into a cool paint shop.

This Harley-Davidson Fat Boy gets the skull treatment with holographic leaf graphics.

This South Dakota Indian Chief motorcycle has Mt. Rushmore on one side and Crazy Horse on the other.

Another Indian motorcycle with a beautiful paint job.

The Vegas Bike was commissioned by a customer that sells gambling supplies.

Leah says the pirate theme was fun - and it shows - making this one cool Bourget Low Blow chopper.

The dark side of art. This Reaper works well on this Honda.

Click here for airbrush class information at Finishline or click here to visit Finishline online.

Great work guys. Thanks for sharing.
