Out of Australia - Art Show on March 6, 2008
Monday, March 3rd, 2008Medea Gallery is honored to present a rare glimpse at one of the few collections to be shown in Los Angeles of contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art. The exhibit will be shown from March 6th – April 30th, 2008.
The exhibition features vibrant works from the Kimberly and Central Desert regions, personally selected by Sherry Thompson. These works exemplify centuries-old legacies combined with modern personal interpretations. Characterized by intricate patterns of finely drafted layers of dots and bold brushstrokes, the art makes use of a wide range of earth tones ground from natural ochre and brightly colored acrylic pigments.
If you haven’t experienced aboriginal art before, this is a great opportunity to see one of the last frontiers of contemporary art. Aboriginal art continues to receive global recognition for interweaving aesthetic inventiveness and cultural traditions. These works explore the complex relationships between humans, nature, the land and those/that power which brought life into existence.
