Anthony Guerra - Pin-up Artist

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Artist Anthony Guerra was in Las Vegas recently and took some time to stop in on A.D. Cook at his home. We chatted about art, airbrush, beautiful women - you know… important stuff. For those of you unfamiliar with Anthony’s work, he’s a renowned pin-up artist and advocate for artists rights.

Above: Anthony and A.D. with artworks by both. Anthony’s pieces are the ones in black resting against the wall. Muse by A.D. is hanging in the wall.

Anthony started this journey at the American College for the Applied Arts (Atlanta) in 1988 and then a few years later he found himself graduating from the Art Institute of Houston and heading straight into a job illustrating for a well-known children’s book company. Yes, that’s right… a children’s book company. He kept with this job until 1998 and then decided that it was no longer beneficial to stay with the company. While he was with the company he taught art classes in various parts of the nation and found that the income he was making doing other various jobs and teaching was quickly taking over the income he was making illustrating children’s books.

As it turns out, Anthony didn’t actually start painting women as my primary subject until 2001. It began with a simple photo shoot with a pretty model, some strobes and a backdrop. After that it was just a matter of building his career to where he is today - and will be tomorrow.

Anthony lives in sunny Southern California with the love of his life, Michelle, who happens to be his elementary school sweetheart, and their five kids. He has a wonderful family, successful businesses, beautiful women to paint… -sigh- it’s a hard life but Anthony tells us someone’s got to do it ;o)

Anthony was in town working on some paintings for Red Bull Energy Drink. While yet unfinished, Anthony shared the paintings with us here before heading back to SoCal.

A couple work-in-process detail shots from the paintings shown above.

Airbrushing Water Droplets

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

No need to wait for a rainy day. Our buddy Ed Hubbs lives in the wet lands of the great Northwest (and our old stompin’ grounds… Oregon). So obviously, he knows a thing or two about water, ’cause when it rains there it pours, and believe us, it rains there a lot. Who better then to show you how to paint water droplets. Watch this video and hit the shop.
