Vegas Cruise at the Freemont Street Experience

June 1-3, 2006 — Hot Rods galore! A cool (and free) car show was held at the Freemont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas from 9am to 5pm. With dozens of great street rods and hot rods on display, along with a plethora of color - both from cars and casino lights (not to mention showgirls everywhere), there was plenty to take in. And if that’s not enough, there were free live bands hitting the stage from 6pm to 11pm nightly. Who says you have to spend money in Vegas to have a great time?
With all this… how could we resist? So, we stopped in for a quick visit and are bringing you a taste here - cars and lots of them.

Of course, big engines and streets rods prevail. Solid colors are always in fashion…

…but old skewl kewl is always in. Black rods and 50’s flames will always be cool, no matter what they are on, but this is a nice package all the way around.

This race-ready beast looks like a serious runner. Can’t say you didn’t see it comin’

Several open-air rides where on display.

This one featured some of the cleanest flames at the show — beautifully painted with great blends and sweet finish.

Old skewl t-buckets are always good for bringing back a few memories.

This one featured a hand-painted mural on the back panel.

This Chevy rag top is clean all the way around and features some hot licks of fire.

A closer look at that fire.

The Blues Brothers “Reborn” - tribute band made an appearance. A new band - a new mission. These guys can be had for a price for your next event. Hmmmm… rubber biscuit anyone? Visit their website for information on the bluesy duo. Or call (702) 461-1837

And speaking of celebs, Elvis is never one to miss a good Hot Rod show. He was seen in the passenger’s seat of a sweet rod at the show.

This black ‘57 Chevy Bel Air is all stealth — until it passes you on a hot summer night.

It features some stealthy art too. Too stealthy for us to get any good shots of at the show, but we have no doubt that we’ll see her around again sometime.

What a beautiful example of a sweet rod. Clean, cool, and of course… flamed.

And this ‘mostly-engine’ beast looks great in blue.

Hot rod trucks are always cool too. This Ford pick up features fire colors throughout.

After all, fire and flames are alway in style…

…even in purples for the King of Rock ‘n Roll.

A closer look at those flames.

And don’t forget your greens.

The ‘White Diamond’ ‘32 Ford Roadster rocks! This is a beautifully finished car…

…inside and out.

Red Rod. Cool graphics.

Indeed. Our thoughts exactly.

The realistic blue fire within the flamed graphics is a nice look we haven’t seen often.

And some nice airbrush work on one lucky Chevelle.

Some airbrushed art on the the side panels of this Camero to tell it’s story of nightly cruises up the Las Vegas Strip.

One of the things I like about cars shows are the signs, and this ride featured a beautifully rendered sign. Guess I’m a sucker for hand-painted work like that.

This sweet lead sled was one of my personal favorites; it’s a 1950 Mercury 2 door chopped a full 4-1/2″— low in the front…

…and draggin’ low in the back. Simple and clean.

…and just a couple tasteful hints of pinstripe - front and back. Sweet.
That’s it for this post. We hope enjoyed the show as much as we did. More picks are posted from this event. Simply click any Flickr image to the right to view hundreds of great images.
